MC3300-Set Up

The Zebra MC3300 is a scanner equipped with an Android OS. The Android operating system provides ease of connectivity and a familiar interface for conducting disposals, transfers and physical inventory using VIM handheld software.

General Information/Tips

  • The scanner has a touchscreen interface
    • The screen is very sensitive, avoid icons while scrolling.
  • Navigation is similar to Android smartphones.
    1. Home Button: returns view to Home screen.
    2. Back Button: returns view to previous screen.
    3. Open App Button: Tile view of open apps.
      • Tap tile to switch to app.
      • Swipe left to close app.
    4. App Drawer Button: Tile view of installed apps.
  • The MC3300 scanner should be fully charged prior to use.

Prepare Data Connection

The scanner must be prepared to receive data via USB connection by adjusting the developer settings.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap the Settings wheel icon.
  3. Scroll to About Phone, tap to select.
  4. Scroll to Build Number, tap seven times to enter Developer Mode.
  5. Tap the Back button to return to the main Settings screen.
  6. Scroll to Developer Options, tap to select.
    • Note: Developer options will not be available if the MC3300 is not in developer mode.
  7. Scroll to USB Configuration, tap to select. This option is under the Networking heading.
  8. Tap to select Transfer files.
  9. Tap the Back button to return to the main Settings screen.
  10. Scroll to Security, tap to select.
  11. Scroll to Unknown Sources, tap to enable.
  12. Tap OK in the warning pop-up.
    • Note: Third party access is required to install the VIM application. This setting can be disabled after VIM installation.
  13. Tap the Home button to return to the main screen.

Set Date and Time

Interactions with the ChIM database are time, date sensitive. Prior to any scan, confirm date and time are correct

  1. Swipe down from the top of screen.
  2. Tap the settings wheel icon.
  3. Scroll to Date & Time, tap to select.
  4. Adjust values.
  5. Tap the Home button to return to main screen.

Add Icons to Home Screen

Icons may be added to the scanner home screen for ease of access.

  1. Tap the caret (^) to open the App Drawer.
  2. Locate the VIM Handheld Software.
    Note: ChIM and General modules have separate installations.
  3. Tap and Hold the VIM icon. The icon will start “floating”.
  4. Drag the icon to the Home screen, release.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 to add the File Browser app icon to the Home screen.
