SDS Widget

SDS documents are linked to all inventory records that share a CAS number. The SDS widget allows for the addition of new SDS and/or review of current SDS present within the database. The SDS widget can be enabled from the settings menu. ChIM Access

Upload SDS-Local File

  1. Log in with a user name and password that has been granted access to Add Inventory.
  2. Choose the appropriate Module.
  3. Click Add from the menu on the left side of the home screen.
  4. Search for and choose the item to be added to the inventory, enter tag number, location, current user and department. Add Inventory
  5. Click the Drop SDS to attach or browse area within the widget to open an explorer window. Navigate to the file location. Double click to select file. The widget will expand for more options.
  6. Or drag and drop the appropriate file into the widget. The widget will expand for more options.
  7. Or click the double arrows to expand the widget. Within the pop-up screen, click the Drop SDS to attach or browse area to choose the appropriate SDS document or drag and drop documents into this area to attach.
  8. Enter the Title and Description for the SDS. The title and file name should include the vendor name, catalog number and identify the file as a safety data sheet to allow for product specific association. The description should provide the information contained within the file name and also include the reagent name.
    • Example file name: Aldrich_139386_SDS
    • Example title: Aldrich 139386 SDS
    • Example description: SDS for Aldrich product # 139386, hexane
  9. The document revision date may also be included, but is not required information.
  10. Click Upload and Save. A pop-up will confirm a successful upload.

Associate SDS from VIM SDS Cloud

  1. Log in with a user name and password that has been granted access to Add Inventory.
  2. Choose the appropriate Module.
  3. Click Add from the menu on the left side of the home screen.
  4. Search for and choose the item to be added to the inventory, enter tag number, location, current user and department. Add Inventory
  5. Click Search VIM SDS to expand the widget.
  6. The initial view auto-populates Country, Language and CAS# fields associated with the product being added to the inventory and returns matching values. The search results will include all SDS containing the current CAS# as an ingredient.
  7. If needed, click Advanced Search to open expanded search options. Enter the desired parameters.
  8. Click Search.
  9. Once the correct SDS has been found, click the download icon to attach the SDS file to the catalog record. The download icon will convert to a check icon when the document is attached to the catalog record.
    • Click the information icon to review the ingredients of a mixture.
    • Click the SDS preview icon to review the SDS file.
